After the cysteine rinse,
the VSCs gradually return to baseline within twenty minutes as the
cysteine is depleted. Once at baseline, the test subject is then
administered a water rinse and VSC measurements are taken again. As
expected, there is no VSC produced from the water per se. A cysteine
rinse is then administered as before and repetitively there after at
20-180 minute intervals for a total period of 480 minutes (8 hours).
The same high VSC levels reached with the first cysteine rinse is
seen with each of these successive cysteine challenges. This shows
that the water rinse is unable to stop the oral bacteria from
producing VSCS.
When the same test is done with SmartMouth Rinse AHTR, the results in
Figure 2 are observed. The initial cysteine challenge gives the same
VSC change as before. With a subsequent rinse with SmartMouth Rinse AHTR, the
VSC readings remain essentially at baseline. This shows that SmartMouth Rinse
AHTR per se has no effect on the Halimeter reading. However, when
repetitive cysteine challenge testing is performed thereafter, the
ability of the oral bacteria to produce VSC is suppressed for 8
hours. Clearly, this demonstrates that following single usage,
SmartMouth Rinse AHTR suppresses the ability of the oral bacteria to produce
VSC dramatically.

A month long double-blind clinical study was also conducted to
determine whether SmartMouth Rinse AHTR, with continual use, enhances its
ability to inhibit malodor and prolongs this inhibition sufficiently
to eliminate morning odor ('morning breath'). The study compared
